I believe the greatest improvement in stability would be achieved if
new functionality was not added in 4.4. Instead, only pre-existing
bugs were fixed. I'd further suggest that the changes should be as
small as possible to fix a bug. Therefore a 1000 line patch does not
contain 10 lines that fixes a bug, and a further 990 lines which adds
new functionality.
