Some people in my dept. use Cadabra, a CAS developed with field-theory in mind (i.e. lots of tensors): http://cadabra.phi-sci.com/index.html
I have no experience with it so cannot advise on its usability. However, it's written in C++ and released under GPL2, so ideally could be wrapped up in Sage.
