Here are some instructions for a quick-and-dirty way. Say you start
with the source tarball of Sage 4.3.0.1.alpha2. Navigate to the
standard spkg repository and uncompress the package that makes up the
Sage library spkg. Then cd to the directory that makes up the Sage

Thank you. Those instructions look useful. I had not set up the Mercurial, so
I'll need to add that to my .hgrc.
I've downloaded the alpha2 to my machine. That is being compiled as I write.
I'm in the process of downloading the alpha3. I'll then set about applying
patches to the alpha2, using your instructions. Hopefully I can sort out the
patch that causes the problem.
