Dear all, Today I tried to build SAGE 4.2.1 from source and ran into what I think is the same problem as described by John Cremona in his original post. Namely, the build process failed when building R and the complaint was "`GCC_4.2.0' not found".
Just in case it helps, the computer used is a lenovo T500 ThinkPad with two Intel Core 2 Duo processors at 2.26GHz and 2GB of memory, running Ubuntu 9.10. The version of GCC installed is $ gcc --version gcc (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu8) 4.4.1 I'll follow the comments that have been made in thread already, which will hopefully result in a successful build.
