Because of the above two lines, this was probably while building Sage.

The SAGE mpir build script definitely only sets ABI to 32 or 64, so you must
have screwed something up in your environment before even building Sage.
What is the output of typing "export" at your default bash prompt?  Is ABI
listed there?  If so, what is it set to?  If it is set, try typing
"unset ABI" before building
Sage.
