I imagine this problem already exists for GMP, not just for MPIR.
Aren't both GMP and ATLAS libraries that are commonly available as
binary packages for several distributions? I don't think they are
running into these problems. This could be as easy as looking in the
build instructions for the relevant source dpkg or srpm and include an
option to build the corresponding spkg with those generic build flags.
