This is why I ask whether the new (actually old) name "SAGE" (for the
math software) would conflict with the trademark "Sage" (for the
accounting software). If a lawier says that the use of SAGE (all upper
case) is OK and can be registered as a trademark even when SAGE
contains finance packages, then I think that it makes sense to use
it.

IIRC one condition of registering a trademark is that you used it --
and SAGE *was* in use.

In that way, the name Sage would essentially be preserved. If such a
little change would be enough to prevent legal and financial damage
(and preserve our base of writing code!) then it's worth it, IMO.
