Hi,

no matter how you name it (I would prefer "LTS", i.e. long term
support), the basic problem is time resp. manpower.

I remember that when Linux switched from versions 2.0.x to 2.2.x, from
2.2.x to 2.4.x, and from 2.4.x to 2.6.x, the then "old" versions 2.0,
2.2, 2.4 had specific maintainers "till the very end", which only
included bugfixes (e.g. security ones), and some few enhancements into
the old branches they took care of.

Still, I do not see anything like this happen with Sage anytime soon,
as long as it is as hard as right now to find release managers even
for the current "main" releases.

Cheers,
Georg
