i don't know how manageable this is, especially when patches depend on
each other and so on.
a similar approach would be to have a main trunk, like an inifite
alpha, and from time to time a second release manager picks an alpha
and irons out everything, by loosing track with the trunk and adding
special patches that only apply to his branch. that's a common model,
but release cycles will be longer and we need more manpower (we hardly
keep one release manager, now we would need one permanent and
additionally a second one for a full release [unless, we can automate
the one for the infinite alpha version, by a gatekeeper program that
automatically runs tests and more] )
