When you make the above comment are you suggesting that "recording in python stuff that existed in some other language" is not a good thing? To say it isn't, may make sense if you were advising a Ph.D. student on how to be at the forefront of research. That's not at all the goal of the Sage project, which is to: create a viable free open source alternative to Maple, Mathematica, Matlab, and Magma. Much of the work of attaining that goal is orthogonal to the sort of goals that would cause one to focus only on doing work that could be described as new original computer science or mathematics research. I just want to be clear to potential and current Sage developers that any work you do "recoding in python of stuff that existed in some other language" is potentially highly useful to the Sage project, and greatly appreciated and valued.
