It's probably just a humble, all-inclusive attitude that we'll judge 
contributions in the review process on technical merit instead of on the 
age of the contributor.  My guess is that judging things solely on merit 
appeals to the inner soul of a mathematician, who is just seeking for 
timeless truths, regardless of where they come from.

This also probably answers why in the world mathematicians think that 
they can award one of the most prestigious prizes (the Fields medal) to 
mathematicians who are merely 40 years or younger.

Sorry for the off-topic response that should move this part of the 
thread to sage-flame.  Responses to this email should definitely be on 
sage-flame.
