What I mean is, I could apply the patch to the Maxima in Sage - that will be less risky than downloading the CVS for Maxima. It would make more sence to wait for a major upgrade of Maxima before doing this. That should happen by the end of the month, but a quick patch to Maxima (its only one or two lines) should allow Maxima to work with the latest ECL. If both of the above are done, Sage should build on Solaris with only one issue I am aware of - the pari header file. I believe there is a bug in the MPIR code though, which is causing problems on FreeBSD and some Solaris boxes (including my x86 laptop), but it is not a problem on any SPARC machine I've tried.
