The problem is that ecl (=embedded common lisp) won't build for you for no apparent reason. ecl is causing me all kinds of trouble today. It won't build under Windows for us (at least not with Maxima), which is causing trouble for the Windows port. We can't get it to build on Solaris x86 despite a lot trying. The latest version of ecl won't even build on sage.math (Ubuntu Linux). I think ecl being "stable" is fairly recent, and it hasn't reached 1.0 yet. The author has an account on sage.math, so I've let him know about at least it not building there. Personally, this makes me wish maxima was an optional spkg. The maxima project is very good about providing Maxima binaries, so it's easy for users to install on their systems. Maxima has in my experience been the most difficult program in all of Sage to port/build, by far, because lisps are quite sophisticated and challenging to build from source. -- William P.S.
