Well, that would do. Instead of hitting the "reset" button, or the "add point" button, I'd turn the "do not update" checkbox, then choose the selector button for the right action and enter other relevant data, then click again on the checkbox. But it's really better to have finer control about which controls trigger updates. At least, from an usability point of view, I'd change the checkbox for an update button. It feels to me like a rather unusual interaction.
