Just one quick warning: If you try this on sage.math.washington.edu,
it will appear to be substantially slower than the mpir included in
vanilla sage-3.4.1, due to a bug in the GMP configuration script,
which misdetect sage.math's Dunnington Xeon processors as Atom N270's
(i.e., a netbook).   Correctly configured, GMP is quite fast on
sage.math.
