I incorporated the changes (although without the comments) in the patch on the trac ticket. Unfortunately, matrix? SHIFT-RETURN still doesn't behave well, while matrix? TAB works fine. Other than that, and other than creating the temporary directory, etc., this is looking pretty good. (There are still a few other minor issues, like the triple quotes in the output from "matrix??".)
