Don't worry, you are doing fine :)

I would suggest you put your code for the above mentioned algorithm
somewhere and open another thread that links to it and then someone
will look at the code and give you feedback. I am not sure if
something like the above is in Sage, but either way we will be happy
to walk you through the process of becoming a Sage developer.
