On amd64 ubuntu 8.10, build was fine and the following tests failed

        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/schemes/elliptic_curves/ell_generic.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/libs/fplll/fplll.pyx"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/calculus/desolvers.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/calculus/wester.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/calculus/calculus.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/matrix/matrix_symbolic_dense.pyx"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/number_field/number_field_element.pyx"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/number_field/morphism.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/number_field/number_field.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/number_field/order.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/number_field/number_field_ideal.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/power_series_ring.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/rings/qqbar.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/functions/piecewise.py"
        sage -t "devel/sage/sage/plot/plot.py"

All but the first one was a time out. I think the issue with ell_generic.py
was already reported by William Stein in this thread already, but if you want
me to give details, just ask.
