It would probably be nice to do an @interact version of the Christmas

At least you can take some virtualizer, install an old Linux
distribution that was current back when the Sage version was released
and with a very high probability it will build out of the box.
Building modern Sage releases on older distributions usually works
modulo internal compiler errors while building old Sage releases on
new operating system releases often causes trouble due to the newer
compilers. But in the end I agree that you have a fighting chance to
get the old code to run.
