As I had pointed out during the hand off process, I was on vacation for
most of these 3 weeks with very scarce time in front of the computer and
internet. I'm trying to catch up with e-mails now. 

I was expecting to have plenty of time to work on symbolics during this
time, but things didn't work out as I expected. I will post the code I
wrote before, and whatever little I could do during these days as
soon as I get a hold over this catching up phase.

Now that I'm back to normal life, my response time should be within
reasonable limits. Feel free to ping me about things you think I should
respond to.


Going back to the initial topic of this thread: 

I share your frustration about the lack of unified interfaces to the
many different sage types, though I was never brave enough to tackle
any of these directly. I believe writing down your thoughts would be
useful, even if no one responds. Your effort could be used once someone
decides to care about these problems, and searches the archive to
decide what to do about them.
