alpha3 is out and it looks like mostly ready, it's already quite
usable, probably beta really soon (seems like week looking at previous
releases but there might be another alpha in between also)... they
work on it in rpy_nextgen branch

hmm... I think this would be a must when upgrading rpy, because it
requires at least R 2.7.0 and we use year old 2.6.1, also I think that
current R release (2.7.2) had some troubles with rpy 1.x so those
updates have to come together - anyway even if we wait for rpy2 final
release, this makes updating rpy to 1.x and R pretty loose of time I
think - it might be good to note this on #3086, don't you think?
