I just found out that I have xmaxima in my $SAGE_LOCAL/bin folder. I am pretty sure no one ordered that. It seems that it will build by default if the configure script finds tk. Actually I had a look at the ebuild in Gentoo and to disable it we pass --with-wish=none and do surgery on the makefile.in in the interface folder.
Since tcl/tk is not in sage I guess we don't want that extra stuff and the (small) build time associated with it. If no one protest I will open a ticket with a patch in the next few hours.
