It seems that supplying a server different than the hostname to allow remote connections causes a backtrace in the notebook.setup() routine. My hostname file wasn't setup, so the choice was between localhost (for local connections) and localhost.localdomain (for remote connections). I supplied chiasson.name and got the aforementioned backtrace.
