If anyone comes here with a similar issue, it turns out to have been a problem with libraries provided by my distribution, specifically givaro and linbox. For linbox <https://github.com/linbox-team/linbox>, the problem addressed in Issue #310 <https://github.com/linbox-team/linbox/issues/310> is still present in openSUSE's version <https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE%3AFactory/linbox>, but updating my system's version of the library fixed the problem. The same goes for Issue #226 <https://github.com/linbox-team/givaro/issues/226> in givaro <https://github.com/linbox-team/givaro>, but commenting the specified line out (as shown on the issue page) fixed the error for me.
