Usually the vmware image is configured to start the notebook on its
own in unsecure mode, so I assume you went in manually and started it
that way? What happens if you remove the /home/sage/.sage directory
and start up again?
On a side note: new members in the Sage Google groups are moderated,
so it might take a while for messages to show up. No need to send them
