Unfortunately, sometimes people start new "threads" by replying to an existing thread, and changing the subject. Since most threading mail viewers use other header information besides the subject (the "References" or "In-Reply-To" header fields) to identify threads, this gets unrelated threads intertwined, making it difficult to sort out what's going on.
