Hello Matt,
unfortunately this is a known issue that we haven't fixed yet. The
version of M2 in the optional spkg is quite old, we have been working
on updating the spkg to the latest version, but that jobs hasn't been
finished yet. There are two ticket about this in trac:

The issue outstanding is that M2 doesn't detect the libraries that
Sage installs and hence overwrites them with its own version. Once
that is resolved we will be more or less ready to upgrade the optional
spkg. Volunteers welcome ;)
