:) - I hadn't thought to look for patches in other distributions.
Ironically I reported the gcc 4.3 vs. gmp 4.2.1 bug a long time ago on
gmp-bugs, but I didn't know that the inlining behavior for C99 was
also fixed.

I am replying to this email, knowing that it is LGPL V3 as you write.
But Sage is GPL V2 or later and the last holdout preventing us from
updating to gmp 4.2.2 was Singular. Singular 3-0-4 is now GPL V2 or
V3, so we can finally update to gmp 4.2.2.
