You can register a handle, i.e. jec with the channel operator. That way other people will be assured the identity of the nick jec and can send you private messages. jec has been registered by somebody else in the past 30 days, so you get the warning. > The nickname I set was jec -- is that causing a problem? Not really. Unless there is another jec in #sage-devel or any other channel you want to frequent. > Should I pick a different one? In #sage-devel most people use their initials or the login they use in google groups. That makes it very easy to figure out whom you are talking to. But since there is no other jec in #sage-devel it should be fine. You can easily change the nick on the fly by using "/nick foo" to become foo. Many people do indicate status that way, i.e. "/ nick mabshoff|afk" would indicate that I am "away from computer" for now. >And a password? You would have to guess the other persons password, but I have found little value in setting one. > Sorry if I am being stupid, this is new technology for me... :) > -- > John Cremona Cheers, Michael --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to sage-devel@googlegroups.com To unsubscribe from this group, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For more options, visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/sage-devel URLs: http://sage.scipy.org/sage/ and http://modular.math.washington.edu/sage/ -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
