After reading licenses all day, I'm developing a headache. All this legal stuff! I pity my partner. She is a lawyer and so acquainted to all "that perilous stuff which weighs upon the heart".
GPLv2 has all the advantages of being simple, but it dates from 1991. The world has changed. So I think it is about time the license changed. The more I read GPLv3, the more I like it. You can hate it, because it is not GPLv2 compatible, but that is just what it should be. There are issues to cope with, but I think, the over all effect on SAGE will be small. In the real world GPLv3 will be accepted as normal progress. Most of the open source/free software will be released under this license now, shortly or in the (near) future. A story of a late colleague of mine: "There are only two kind of people. The first kind walks happily at the hand of Fortuna, the goddess of luck, chance and fortune. The other kind is jerking, wants to go another way. But in the end they all end in the same place". As William said: 'GPLv2 or later' is the way to go, at our own pace.
