The strategy with PARI is:
   (1) use the stable release when it comes out for a few months... until
it becomes hopelessly out of date, because everybody who is anybody knows
one should use the devel version, then
   (2) switch to the devel version for the next year or two.

It's probably getting close to time to switch to the pari-2.4.* version.

It's really annoying that pari uses the old stable/unstable development model.
The linux kernel used to be like that until *fortunately* Linus
realized it is a really
bad model for development and switched to a more standard model.
