Hello, William asked me to post about the upcoming 2.8.2 and 2.8.3 sage releases.
2.8.2 will be a "bug fixes only" release: It is mostly fixes to the sage library, but also contains some package updates (usually build fixes and a crash fix for mwrank). It is planned for this Wednesday, i.e. roughly 72 hours from now. I did have a look at track and I would consider the following tickets relevant for 2.8.2: Tickets: #465 (defect): LinBox: reenable Strassen-Winograd optimization test on Solaris #464 (enhancement): add valgrind support to sage-doctest #450 (defect): clisp build fix on Solaris There is also a new Singular spkg by Martin Albrecht at sage:/home/malb/pkgs/singular-3-0-3-20070819.spkg which should go into 2.8.2 Let us know if you have any more bugfixes for 2.8.2. The release date for 2.8.3 hasn't been determined yet. It will contain new features and William has stated that he received many patches since 2.8. Those will be considered for inclusion for 2.8.3. During the Bug Day 1 there was also some discussion on how to handle further development. Among the suggestions have been: - create a Maintainers file so people know who is responsible for which area of Sage. That file should be created in the Wiki - A new "if you work on something it should be in trac" rule: Instead of submitting patches directly to William you should create tickets in Sage's trac. So write William an Email and get a track account. - I volunteered to take care of Sage's trac installation and do bug triage and attempt to coordinate fixes. We should really avoid letting bugs get stale in trac and also make sure that we close tickets for issues that have been fixed either accidentally or via some other patch. Obviously if you like to help out let me know. Sage Bug Day 1 has been considered a great success and hopefully we will find time soon to do another one. More about that later.
