Hi,

We’re using s3cmd on a VPS machine to take backups to Amazon. We’ve got it set up to use GPG encryption on the backups for security reasons.

In the last week or so, we’ve noticed that one account isn’t being backed up using s3cmd as the file to transfer has grown bigger than 1GB. Having looked through the logs of the backup process, this seems to be because s3cmd is using the /tmp directory before making the copy to s3. On this VPS, there is a hard limit set on the /tmp directory on the VPS machine of 1GB due to Virtuozzo always limiting the /tmp directory to half the available RAM (2GB).

If s3cmd is creating the encrypted file within /tmp (it would be good if someone could confirm this), is there any way to specify an alternative ‘temp’ directory? Any other directory on the OS would be fine e.g. /tmp_backup - it is just specifically with /tmp in virtual machines running within Virtuozzo. If I turn off the GPG encryption, would this also prevent the files going into /tmp?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Jonathan
