I have been using AWS S3 only for the past couple of months.
I am using s3cmd to move data onto. In addition I am using GUI s3
browsers, especially crossftp (www.crossftp.com)
My understanding that s3 stores named objects in buckets and that any
directory structure implied by / chars is simply by convention.

I copy a directory tree to s3 using s3cmd.
I then browse to the new s3 directory tree using crossftp.
A dialog box pops up saying:

S3 placeholder folder does not exist. Do you want to create it?

I believe that I have also seen a similar message when using another
s3 GUI browser.

Q: Is there a mechanism (or option) to have s3cmd create these "placeholders" ?

Thanks,
Michael
