Unfortunately Python 2.3.4 is not supported by s3cmd. Please use Python 2.4.x or newer. BTW You don't necessarily have to *upgrade* your Python as the new one can be installed into a separate directory, e.g. /usr/local/python2.5 without touching your existing 2.3.4 install. Some Linux distributions, e.g. older Debians, use 2.3 by default but also offer 2.4 and 2.5 in the repositories, so have a look there as well.
