I have just found one more long, long standing bug in the
codebase, and that makes quite an impressive list of fixes since
v14.8.9:
224d858 popen.c:_file_save(): adjust partial [41250b1] cherry-pick
41250b1 FIX: no O_APPEND for .bz2/.xz/*file-hook-load*! Use lseek(2)!!..
This should actually fix all uses of compressed boxes and
*file-hook-** use cases. Independent of the used C library that
is to say. It enables me to say
set file-hook-load-xz_pgp='gpg -d | xz -dc' \
file-hook-save-xz_pgp='xz -zc | gpg -e'
on a GNU/Linux system without ending up with corrupted boxes,
i.e., a complaining gpg(1) that says that says so.

will have to happen soon, i'm just awaiting some more tests.
I would however urge every user of [master] or [next] to update.
Reports are welcome.
I hope to be able to merge [crawl] into [next] in August, which
brings very much fun (disclaimer: for receptive persons), and
i guess could already be released as v14.9 if the three features
that i had promised to implement before (temporarily) switching
away to S-{CText,Roff} were still missing. ._. Apologies to
Sergey and those members of the Roff community which would like to
see progress! I hope i can make it.
