As someone who uses Bower and thinks it’s pretty cool, I think requiring a default out-of-the-box Rails app to have node.js as a dependency is a non-starter. Folks who want to get that functionality can customize their own apps without dramatically expanding the web of dependencies for folks building apps on the default stack.
