Andre, I can, and do, use wget to synchronise the rpm repository but it takes some time - up to 30 minutes - even without significant changes to the respository.
By comparison, I regularly synchronise the Centos 6.4 update respository for i386 and x86_64 (some 13,000 files over 10 different directories totaling 31GB) and it takes only seconds if there are no updates available. Or, just a few minutes ago, it took 5 minutes for a few library changes (say 144MB in total downloaded) to synchronise. Based on this, I assume, rsync is more efficient and less resource demanding than tools such as wget.
