Hi,

Can I have rsyslog listen to two different sockets?

Yes, just do the socket initialization multiple times.

I would like to have my application send data to a different socket from the standard logs socket so that we can then filter in rsyslog based on the socket the data was sent to?

This is what rulesets are for. When you start a listener, you can bind it to a particular ruleset and only filters in that ruleset will be applied to those entries.

I don't know if the input variable reflects which socket the message arrives on, create a test log with the RSYSLOG_DebugFormat to see if the input variable is set to a useful value

Also if it is possible, will rsyslog create the socket when it starts if it
does not exist or do i need to create it?

I believe that rsyslog creates the socket.
