You don't show the _exact_ commands you're using, so it's hard to tell what the problem is. But on these Debian boxes, I can't Are you talking to an rsync daemon? If not, rsyncd.conf is not relevant. If a daemon is being used when the rsyncd.conf should be in /etc/.
