Hey,
it was nice if rsync could be linked against "libwrap" (inside the tcp_wrappers-tool)
by Wietse Venema <http://www.porcupine.org/pub/security/index.html>. If run as a stand
alone-daemon, not from inetd, you could deny access from certain hosts to rsync this
way. A patch shouldn't be too hard to develop, as e.g. the very little code changes in
OpenSSH, which can be liked against "libwrap" already, indicate, that are necessary to
support this additional functionality.
