transfer as root

Hi all!

Great thing this rsync to backup my files to my backup-server!

My secrets-file in /etc looks like this:
root:rootpassword
andreas:password

In the bash as root I do a:
root@gamma:/home/andreas > rsync -avz -e ssh /cad alpha::ga-cad
Password:

When I give the rootpassword I get an error-message. The password of
andreas works then. 
What I´m I doing wrong?
