It would be cool to add VMS as a supported platform, but I don't think any of the current developers have access to a VMS machine, so you might need somebody with expertise and access to help you carry out any portability fixes necessary. In particular, you will probably need to drop the autoconf script and write your own Makefile, based on Makefile.in. That should be pretty straightforward.
