More info..
I have checked the ownership and permisions on both machines and they are
OK. the filesystems are not mounted read only. all interactive attempts at
writing data to the directory are successful.
only an rsync from the master to the slave fails. the interactive report
from rsync is success but checking the log file on the slave machine
indicates the error.
i can make a successful copy but only if the rsync command is initiated on
the slave machine. which means a seperate cron with a seperate control
script. not a major hurdle but i am not fond of exceptions.
again, any insights would be graciously accepted.
