I'd like to add my voice to the "yes please" crowd for built-in transport
and encryption for rsync. I use rsync primarily for mirroring purposes,
and hence have to run it as root at both ends. To have it run via ssh
automatically at night, I had to have an empty passphrase for root. That
is now safe because ssh will only run rsync (i.e. ssh logins as root will
simply run rsync, nothing else). However, it was all an amazing headache
and I cursed the need to use ssh many times. (I should add that some of
the clients were windoze machines without rsh, so I figured I might as
well get ssh for them as rsh - but what a headache it was and still is).

rsync would be so much easier for new users if that was all they
needed. Might make a Mac version that much easier too - we have some need
for that.
