In UNIX yes, but in windows there is a special patch for openssh 
which seem to depend on pipes.

I have implemented rsync in daemon mode and forgot everything 
about ssh. This night it suceeded in rsync 4 different windows NT 
servers over the WAN to my rsync UNIX box. This is now with 
rsync 2.4.6.

I'll keep you posted on my success/failure in a few days.
