Hi,
I'm using rsync 2.4.5-1 with rsh between a RedHat Linux 6.1 machines and
an RH v6.2 machine. Both Intel-based. One machine is in Sydney and one in
Melbourne.
Intermittent failure doing nightly rsync of 2Gb of data files across a
frame relay link. Normally completes in an hour or an hour and a half
depending on how much data has been keyed during the day.
I normally run it as a cron job, but tonight ran it manually and received
this message:
poll: protocol failure in circuit setup
unexpected EOF in read-timeout
Some nights the transfer completes, but sometimes it doesn't.
Running it under cron there is no error message it just terminates. So
it may be the same problem as indicated in the protocol failure message
or it may not. It could be different problems every night.
The frame relay link works reasonably well for telnet, email and samba
traffic maybe rsync is just overloading it.
I've tried timeout=1800 and timeout=300 as well. Should I try reducing
the speed? Try -blocking-io ? Use 2.4.6?
If anyone has any advice I'd be pleased to receive it.
Thanks in advance,
John Leach
