Hi, The directory /usr/lib/perl5/5.00503/i386-linux is the rrdtool 1.0.38-1, not the perl.

Obviously you got some incorrect packages. Red Hat Linux 8.0 comes with perl 5.8 and you got a reference to perl 5.00503 which is rather old.
