Using version 2.0.1 of R, the following syntax is accepted :
f=function(x_y) return(x_y+1);

Because I use Python syntax for a while, I hate using point '.' in R 
expressions. They're very confusing.
I think underscores have been allowed in "recent" versions of R, and I 
would prefer using them in my raw R programs.
If they really can't be handled by rpy, I would change my codes....
