I think pretty much everybody on a 64-bit system has to specify the path
manually now, including me. Debian changed its architecture, and the
changes propagated through all the derivative distros, like Ubuntu.

I looked at tweaking the build system, and I ended up just writing the
new configure command in a shell script instead. Git'r done.

Anyway, I'm quite at a loss too why you would be seeing a problem I'm
not, but I don't have time just at the moment to compare notes on
library versions and other such.

Did you try deleting your userland configuration files and starting
fresh? Tehom and I agreed it sounds like your problem could be as
simple as a malfunctioning configuration setting. Changing Qt versions
does cause compatibility problems with the configuration file from time
to time. The window position stuff has been particularly troublesome in
this regard.
